MILLINGTON – Clinton eliminated the defending Division 7 state champions Saturday with a 20-18 victory in the regional finals at Millington.

The Redwolves trailed 18-14 with under a minute to play when Dacari Garrison caught an incredible 39-yard pass to set up a touchdown catch by Tanner Bolton two plays later, putting Clinton in front for good, 20-18.

Gradyn Whelan fired the pass to Bolton in the back of the end zone, but the ball was tipped. Bolton was still able to collect the ball and score the touchdown.

Clifford Jones caught a first quarter touchdown from Whelan and Whelan had a long touchdown run in the third quarter. The Redwolves led 8-0 before allowing back-to-back Millington touchdowns to go down 12-8 at one point in the third quarter.

Clinton (10-2) will play Schoolcraft in next week’s Division 7 semifinals Saturday.

The time and location of the game will be announced later.

Quote of the week

“The group has been on the varsity for two years now. They are seniors now and have been in our system. They have been in the weight room. The whole school is on the same page when it comes to that. Our coaching staff is all coming back and there is continuity there and that is important.”
